Safety
Village Landscapes began its full scale Safety Program in February 2004 by hiring a full time Safety Director to develop and supervise a comprehensive Safety program. The first step was to initiate all of our Division Managers to play an active part in it. All the key Divisional Production Managers received OSHA recommended "Competent Person" training and they all successfully completed the OSHA 10 hour Safety Program training. The managers and key foremen regularly receive Red Cross First Aid and CPR training and certification.
Our program safety inspections includes our regular shop, storage facility, equipment and full time seat belt requirements for all employees. Truck "Safety Inspections" are carried out by our management teams on a daily basis, and all crews are required to post orange traffic cones around their vehicles and trailers every time they are parked. All vehicles carry extensive first aid kits and fire extinguishers and all personnel receive training in their use on a regular basis.
Full time use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the form of hard hats, work gloves, ear protection, safety eye wear, respirators and dust masks, and many specialized safety equipment required for each work effort are supplied to each employee at the company's expense. Training in the correct use of PPE is provided at regular intervals to all personnel.
Regular "Crew Safety Meetings" and "Tool Box Meetings" for all employees include training in all phases of the OSHA Hazard Protection Plan as it applies to our work efforts and as stated in our comprehensive "Policy, Practices and Procedures" manual, along with how to recognize and avoid common accidents found within our profession.
The Safety Committee, comprised of the Safety Director and a manager from each Division, meet semi-monthly to review the monthly Safety Report that includes any accidents or incidents that may require further action against a safety violator. In addition they review the Safety Program and make modifications as required.
Village Landscapes is extremely proud of the effort made by all of our employees who make it possible for us to maintain one of the finest safety records in the industry.
